Hi everyone, I'm building my first computer and am having trouble during a test boot. Before installing it in the case I've been testing the parts to make sure they work. I have the mobo resting on the case it came in, the CPU installed with the stock cooling fan installed, the power supply connected, a monitor hooked up, and the memory installed.

Here are the components I'm working with:

ASUS Maximus VI Formula Mobo
Corsair Vengeance Pro DDR3 1866 Ram (1866C9R) 2 8GB sticks
Intel 4770k CPU
Corsair HX850

When I boot up the computer with both memory sticks installed the computer boots up, cycles for a bit, then shuts off and restarts, with the BIOS never appearing. I don't have a motherboard speaker so I just ordered one to see if that helps in identifying the issue.

I tried booting the computer with just one stick of memory, and am getting an error code 53, which indicates incompatible memory. However, this memory is listed in the compatible parts list, so I have my doubts about that.

I'm wondering if this problem could be cause by the 1866ghz frequency. I don't have 1600ghz memory to test it with though.

Any thoughts or suggestions? They are very much appreciated!

Shouldn't be, are you trying the 1 stick in slot 1 closest to the CPU? If not try that, if you are try 1 sticks in slot 2 from CPU, if when you can get it to boot to BIOS make sure you have the latest BIOS, that may be the problem

Thank you for that suggestion. That seemed to work. With one stick in the second slot and the other in the fourth slot the computer now starts to boot, stops, restarts, then boots up to the Post screen. On that I'm getting an error message saying CPU Fan error.

and after checking the pin, I see I plugged the CPU fan into the wrong slot, switched it, error message gone...but still starting up, restarting, then fine.

I'm going to try updating the BIOS now
