I had my PC built for me and it seems when they installed the case fans, they are both connected into one cord that splits into two. The rear fan's cord goes all the way along to the front of the case and is plugged into the mobo but has another part of the cord that is connected to the front fan as well. I want to change my rear case fan but since both are connected do I need to buy 2 new fans and connect them separately?

The case I have is a Gigabyte GZ-x7

Hello Dlee!
If you're talking about a ''Y'' fan separator like this one :

,
then you don't need to buy 2 new fans. The way I understand your question you are asking if you can change the fan and still connect them together. Yes you can. Normally, you use such a cable to connect more than one fan to a fan header on the motherboard when you don't have enough on your mobo to connect all of your fans. You can still change the rear fan and connect it with the other with the same cable.

You could also connect one to the motherboard with a single cable and connect the other to the power supply with an adaptor.

Hope this clear things up!
