I have an x58 chipset PC that i built with the i7-980x CPU. I have all 6 cores at 4.2ghz. Cooled with an nh-d14. Will I even see a performance increase going to the i7-4790k devils canyon haswell chip even if they can be pushed to 5ghz on average with good cooling considering I'll be losing 2 cores I feel like it might be a downgrade still.

I convert and burn well over 100 videos a month for friends and family and I always use the very highest quality and 2 pass encoding and do 4 hours of video per 8.5GB dual layer dvd so either 1 or 2 movies per disc. Currently it takes a varying amount of time depending on the source file and it's resolution and what codec was used to encode it but id say 4 hours of video can take 30 minutes from start to finish to 2 hours. This includes both passes and the burn time of 8x dual layer. This is the most intensive thing I do with the PC. People just drop off discs and want the videos so having this process as fast as possible would be ideal.

Basically how does video encode speed differ between 4.2ghz i7-980x cpu with 6 cores and a 5.0ghz i7-4770k with 4 cores. Is there even a point to upgrade yet?
