Hello everyone! I'm looking at buying a new hdd for my pc. But i seem to be quite stuck. I'm looking for the absolute most reliable HDD on the market! I've heard great stuff about WD Black and i'm looking at the WD1003FZEX. Also i've heard great stuff about the Hitachi/Toshiba line of HDD and for the same price i can get the DT01ACA200 witch is a 2TB drive compared to the 1 TB WD Black. Also, i have found this Hitachi drive HSHDS721010DLE630-0F13180 at around the same price. I know that the black comes with a 5 year warranty but i believe it's not something so important, because warranty or no warranty, if an HDD fails, the data on it is most likely lost.

I will be using the HDD as the single HDD in my machine. That means OS, general everyday use, but most important, i will be storing really, really important and sensitive data on it.

Keeping that in mind, which of the 3 HDD is the single most reliable? Which one of the two should i buy?

as someone somewhere mentioned backing up is always a good idea , any mechanical HDD has moving parts and at some point in time will die
how long untill it does ? No one can be sure , i have had drives last over 10years , others 3months even some D.O.A. ( Dead On Arrival )

I come across that link way to often to trust it. It seems it's among the few, places that recommend Hitachi drives. But maybe that's just me... Anyway thank you everyone for the input but i still need to know which one is the most reliable before i make a purchase...

A bit off topic BUT: Personally I would _NEVER_ have OS and important/sensitive material on the same drive. That is just a recipe for a depression.

If I was you, I would get an SSD for OS/Drivers - in that case if your system does fail in any way, you can you format the system without loosing the system stuff.. I know it can be done in other ways but this is the way I prefer.

But as mickypheonix says > I have a weakness for WD aswell, they are just solid HDDs. That being said, I have had Samsung and Seagate HDDs that have worked years flawlessly..
