Hi all.

So I have the option of either upgrading my CPU from an i5-3570k to an i7 processor or making a completely new build and starting from getting a i5-4670k and with that I would need to get another motherboard so that would obviously be the more expensive route.

So which do you recommend? And if you are going to recommend the i7 upgrade then please recommend a specific processor.

Thanks in advance.

It kinda depends on what you're doing with your system... If you're mostly gaming, I'd suggest you hold on to your 3570k, as the 4670k isn't much of an upgrade.

I mean, if you need the extra grunt, like live streaming during serious gaming, or running 7 million instances of minesweeper, then the 3770k would work, but again, the i5 you have is still extremely relevant.

Why would you want to upgrade from the 3570k? It's still good to this day, and the 4670K is only 10% better, and you don't really need a i7 unless you actually need the hyperthreading from them.

If you want to upgrade, wait for intels next gen line up. This year, they're only adding more haswell CPU's.

Which is on the high end which the 3570k can make up in overclocking as the 4670k is less capable of a high OC =).

OP: Stick to the 3570k unless you are planning on heavy rendering, video-editing, hosting, streaming. --> In that case go with the i7.
