Hello,

I already went through http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/261145-31-perform-steps-posting-post-boot-video-problems

Yesterday I decided to clean the dust off my computer. I may have destroyed some parts because I was working on the carpet and the static may have killed something.

My power supply is functioning, I tried the paper clip test and was successful. How can I find out which part or parts are the problem?

The motherboard light comes on. But none of the fans plugged into the motherboard are starting. I don't have a spare computer to test the ram or video cards.

Please advise.

Solution
did you happen to be blowing air to your cpu socket when you removed the heatsink?

if so, remove your cpu the use compressed air to blow directly on the pin sockets.

reattach and try to start it up again.

I didn't get anywhere. I found out my PSU works. Rest is up in the air. I need to know how to isolate the problem. My CPU sits fine. I tried the RAM one at a time.

Yes, tried that already. I went through the guide above. When I was cleaning, the only thing I removed were the heatsink fans, and video cards.

I've removed all the plugs, and re-attached them. Nothing so far.

It is likely that the heatsink fan is not properly plugged in and the system is seeing it as "no CPU fan". It will not POST if there is no CPU fan. This may be the problem.

Just tried that, still the same issue. I plugged it in correctly. Should I assume the motherboard is dead from static shock? How can I find out what exactly got damaged? Since the fans don't start up, could it just be the motherboard?

I agreed carpet is the nice PC killer since that may cause a lot of statics.

I would suggest we take all parts off the computer just start with the mobo alone.
Also remove the mobo small Bios battery for few minutes.
Then install the crucial parts including the CPU, RAM and video card (if no onboard video).
Please remember to connnect the 4/6/8 pins power connector for the video system as well.

If still the same problem, test the PSU and the mobo.

Hope this helps.

So good news and bad news. My computer is now starting after replacing the motherboard. But now when windows 7 gets to the start screen, I get a quick blue screen of death and it restarts. Start up repair did not help.
