Hey people,

Just point me to the correct posts or give me a quick shout:

Basically I'm pretty sure I know the issue, the Power supply is really hot and when I demand a little extra power for something like AC3, the computer stays powered, all fans going, PSU is still going but the image dies and crashes, and I have to unplug and plug it back in. Did that 3 times in a row, wasn't sure about the 1st time if I hadn't kicked the cable by accident, but the last 2 times I knew something was up. I unplugged everything and the PSU was just HOT so I'm coming to the conclusion, the PSU is FRIED (5-6 years old, had a good run).

Any comments appreciated!!!

Have you changed any hardware recently? That certainly sounds like a power supply that is monumentally overloaded, or near complete failure like you said.

Either way, STOP USING IT immediately, this is a real danger not only to your computer hardware, but yourself and wherever you are using it. A power supply failing in such a way can catch fire after the computer is turned off or the power draw isn't as large due to potentially melting wire sheathing causing shorts and arcs.

Best to replace the PSU with a good unit with active PFC from a reputable name like Seasonic or Corsairs offerings (other than the CX series which are decent but not as reliable as their other model lines)

Cool, that's what I did unplug it and it's just on my desk now. I haven't changed anything in over a year. SO... lol

Cool, I was looking at the CX series, they seemed to be the best rated. I'm looking at 500w maybe 550 I'm pushing it with a 450w and it just went.

Thanks I'll keep looking
