Can a Hard drive cause stutter and fps drops almost any new game is unplayable due to drops and stutter with cpu,gpu and ram never maxing out, but recently had seen that my hard drive is dieing sense I keep freezing and crashing, would my hard drive be the reason for this, is it just was not fast enough, its a 7200 rpm with a 16 mb transfer "if thats what its called" its pretty old from 2009 and the only thing i hadnt updated in my system

Specs

FX 6350
GTX 660
1333mhz Ram

I just found a pdf on it but as far as any support tool ?? but still could be the card have you installed any new driver over one you did not see an issue with? you may try to fall back to a knowen working driver to see if it works out better
Did you change the motherboard when you upgraded your system? If you did, you need to re-install Windows. If that's already done, your HDD might be going bad. Download Speedfan, use the S.M.A.R.T. utility that comes with it and perform a HDD check. After doing that, click 'perform in-depth online analysis' in the S.M.A.R.T. -tab of Speedfan.

could be having read/write issues older drives and new anit perfect and can start to fail at any time . it could be just time for a new one and 7200 working well is good I use then but if its a wd drive try there data life guard and run there test as for smart I seem that call a drive good and knowing its not [ so just take it with a grain of salt ]. and would not pass the data life guard test. be sure you go to wd and look up your drive and get life guard for it...

Generally the drive won't cause serious issues unless there is something wrong. I just switched out an old PATA 300GB drive in my kids machine to a 1TB SATA SSHD and noticed very little difference in actual game play.... booting and loading though is a huge difference. That is unless of course you have 4GB of RAM or something and you are getting swapping, but for that I would upgrade RAM not replace the drive since the swapping would still be there just slightly less annoying.

Yeah, S.M.A.R.T. can overlook some serious problems, that's why I said: "After doing that, click 'perform in-depth online analysis' in the S.M.A.R.T. -tab of Speedfan."

That uses the results of your S.M.A.R.T. analysis to give you pretty accurate info on the condition of your HDD.
