I have noticed when I play Dark Souls I and Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning that my FPS will drop to near nonexistence when I hit an enemy with an attack. I generally run around 60 FPS, but during these drops the screen will move at 1 FPS if I am lucky, but will often just freeze for 2-3 seconds. As far as I can tell, it does not matter what the attack is, or how flashy of an attack it is, I suffer the same consequences. As soon as the attack is over, everything goes back to normal. Taking damage, dying, or attacking air does not recreate any of the FPS drop issues. I have attempted to verify the game cache files. There was a problem with one file on Dark Souls I, and no problems with KoA:R, but it did not solve the FPS problems.

My computer specs are as follows:
OS: Windows 7
Processor: AMD FX(tm)-8320 Eight-core Processor
Memory: 8192 MB RAM

I hope you don't get mad like all the rest I say this to .....

well if that's what steam wants you to play ''your '' game at that's how you will play.. maby send them some more of your money so you can have then dictate ''your'' game play different?? see it don't matter what kind of computer you run how topend it is . bottom line is they control it not you. when you buy a steam required game its not your game its theres and they let you play as they see fit see you payed for a game that you now cant seem to fully enjoy because you really don't have any control over it with out them being involved and if a guy gets on there server with a $50 x-box and your $2000 rig will be cut back to his x-box play rate to keep the ''fairness'' of the game .. wow. I can go on but I think you should get the drift ..

good luck

The thing is, this is not a case of my rig being cut back to the standards of an xbox 360, or even an xbox. The FPS during PVE combat drops to near 0. This honestly renders the game just about unplayable. I cannot see any boss in Dark Souls 1 to be beatable under these conditions. Like this, Valve has absolutely nothing to gain, and risk serious loss in sales. This is why I do not think Valve themselves is intentionally limiting my FPS. I think it is more likely that there is an issue somewhere in my rig. Now I am by no means a computer expert, so I could very well be wrong. But I would like some suggestions of possible problems/solutions or different troubleshoots I could try before I accuse Valve of this. I'd rather not burn any bridges I don't have to.

You do realize that there are virtually no games out there that allow for cross platform play, not only due to framerate variances, but also due to the fact that for FPS games in particular a controller simply can't compete with mouse and keyboard. Steam does not have anything in it to cut your framerates in order to make it 'more fair' for people with low end systems or consoles.

There are a couple of possibilities for why you are having your games freeze. One would be that there are some problems with the graphics driver revision you are using, try updating to the latest graphics driver if you haven't already done so.

Some Steam games have also had performance issues on AMD FX CPUs due to some issues with the DRM and how it interacts with those AMD chips, though this was mostly a problem with Bulldozer and not Piledriver CPUs. The problem was fixed with a BIOS update. You may need to check to see if you have the latest BIOS for your motherboard, and look at updating to a newer version of you have a particularly old BIOS.

my point was .. steam type games weather on a disk or download are not yours to play but they are sold to you as if they were and you agree to there full control of that game cause with out them you don't load or play with out there ok see I'm an old gamer that games I have don't need you steam internet to play I got the games on a disk I load them up and I play them as I want when I want with who I want till the cows come home . I can run my own server trade with friends install reinstall uninstall reinstall on all my rigs with out checking in with them for there grace. if theres an issue with one of my games I know it on me and not have to rely on something like steam jacking around with me or there server is down dropped support nothing as long as the disk is good and not scratched up to were it wont read I play.. not steams server is down they lost my file they did not activate my game. and so on so you guys who think its so good with steam or who ever like them dude they got you fooled I mean paying for something you don't realy have to do as you want and a 3ed party has more to say over it then you is just foolish to me and I cant see supporting that [opinion]
