Hi! I'm really new to this whole thing and I've never attempted to build a PC before. I've come up with a build that I believe is compatible but I'm not sure if I could go cheaper on some of the parts for similar performance. I would like to spend at max ~$1400 including monitor and OS. Here is my current build that I'm looking at buying: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/3FqJH
Thanks again for taking the time to help!

For purely gaming and casual uses:
Spend less on the cpu. an i5 4670k is sufficient
Spend more on the gpu to increase graphic performance.
Get a cheaper power supply. Platinum power supply aren't really worth it in my opinion. Gold would be sufficient. For single gpu setup, 550-650 is enough.
Z97 motherboard are releasing soon. I would wait a little bit for them so you have the extra features built into the chipset and upgradability to Broadwell. If they don't appeal to you then you can justify the motherboard you chosen.

What is the main purpose of this system going to be? I'm thinking gaming?

The parts you have listed are all compatible, but in my opinion, it's a bit unbalanced (going on the assumption the system is for gaming).

-The i7 in general is overkill. It's really only needed if you do lots of video editing for example. An i5-4670K would save you some money.
-The motherboard you have chosen is microATX, but the case you have chosen is ATX. They are compatible, and the motherboard will fit, but it is a bit of an odd choice. That is a small motherboard that will look tiny in the case and limit your upgrading options in the future. You could get a full size ATX motherboard, at a better price (the ROG series boards are great for serious overlocking, but you pay for it). Take a look at the Asus Z87-A as an example of a good price/performance 1150 ATX motherboard. If you want to stick with the ROG lineup, check out the maximus vi hero.
-You PSU is a bit overkill for your system. Look at the XFX 550W or 650W. Both made by Seasonic, arguably the best PSU maker right now, and typically much cheaper than the one you have chosen. A 550W is more than enough for the gtx 760 plus overclocking.

With the money saved, you can upgrade your graphics card, as it is the most important part for gaming. Look at getting at least a gtx 770.

If I were you I would get a FX 8350 instead of an 4770k.
I know, I know
Intel has better performance per core but the fx 8350 is enough for any gpu you throw at it and it will generally last longer than core i5 and i7s because of its 8 cores. There are 2 cores per module if someone comes to an idea of saying that the fx 8350 is only an quad core. I am no amd fanboy or what so ever but the fx 8350 will save him A LOT of money and he can get a non refrence R9 290 instead of an gtx 760. And the FX 8350 isn't that bad either. It is vetter in multithreaded games and applications. like in bf4 the fx 8350 was 2nd place behind the 4930X. Its just my opinion
