It's decent for low to medium gaming, but only get it if you don't plan on using a graphics card or if it's cheaper than an Athlon X4 7xx

The CPU matters a lot in games. If the CPU isn't strong enough to do the required work, then you'll get really poor gaming performance. This will show up in the form of really low fps, and bad frame timing...

I think when they say that the GPU is usually the limiting factor, it's because most computers are using integrated graphics which just aren't that strong.

You should post your budget and ask for some help. Also, remember that a few more bucks now, will save you a lot of headache later.

The main difference is the 400 mhz clock speed the cache is the same. I guess it comes down to you whether the 10 extra dollars is worth it or not. Sure you could overclock but with the 760 you could overclock beyond the 400mhz with no issues I would imagine all pending good cooling. If you don't intend on overclocking perhaps best to pick the 760k. If you are purchasing this and a graphics card and its stopping you from purchasing a higher graphics card pick the 750k.

Well, if you've already got the mobo and the such, just get the one you can afford of out of the two you mentioned... Preferably the highest one, since you will be using this a lot.

The FX6300 wouldn't work with the mobo you already have.

amd athlon x4 760k <--- the extra core speed will come in handy. It's a faster CPU, there for you'll have a higher min fps in games, and do tasks such as video encoding faster with it.

Not a whole lot really. I would say anything more then 10 dollars is probably overpriced. Intel's a little different because you deal with unlocked versus locked. I can't imagine you getting more then a few frames difference. And you may have quicker system responsiveness but how much not very much would a few seconds shorter matter to you? When I overclock my 2500k from its boost from 3.7 to 4.2 I don't feel much of any difference with games.
