Hi,
I have a lenovo m57 sff desktop & currently running 4x1gb memory modules.

Here is the issue Ive been having, recently got some 2 gb modules 4 of them=8gb I installed them & after bios post kept saying memory size error, i eventually got it to boot but it kept hanging in windows and crashing the system with bsod,

Further memory test within the recovery disc said there was an externalmedia error and windows mem test showed hardware errors... I took the ram out and installed my old memory in all configurations possible and it was showing in error in those to now & no boot (hanging at win7 load screen).

So I took all the memory out & blew some compressed air in the slots & got my old ram to boot and run now, back to normal... But now im too scared to try the other memory now because i installed/unistalled at least a dozen times & scared I may have damaged the mem slots. Should i retry the new ram or leave it alone ? BTW it says my system can support 8gb so i know it isnt that & im running win7 ultimate 64bit. Thanks

Try resetting the CMOS, then try the 2GB sticks (are all of them from a single package? If not they simply might not play together and few desktops allow to to change voltages or timings that are often required to get them to work/play together...If no joy, reset CMOS again and try the old sticks

Thanks for the reply.. I wish my PC would allow a voltage change but it dosent because it I think that might work, oh well guess I'll have to stick to 4gb for now until I upgrade to a newer pc

question, still using that original 280watt PS?

your replacement ram is one of these?

533MHz / 667MHz / 800MHz DDR2 (Double Data Rate) dual channel memory support
PC2-5300 and PC2-6400 memory supported
Four 1.8V, 240-pin DDR2 SDRAM UDIMM sockets
Support for up to 8 GB of DDR2 SDRAM

Yes original 280w power supply,

The replacements are 2gbx4 pc2-6400 800 ddr2, the ones i am currently running are pc2-6400 also, but 1gbx4 .. I dont know if it makes a difference but the memory brand in Nanya I dont know of there quality just recently heard about them cause that is what came in my pc when i bought it used, so i decided to try them again since the brand was working already in my pc

i remember back in the day swapping memory and needing to slightly bump the voltage to get it to run right. ( not in the ones column but the tenths column. )

if you have any add in cards you could try removing them. PS may be taxed already. you can disconnect dvd-rom/floppy but will have to make up for it in the BIOS..... ( don't let machine seek them out )
