After my PC is running for several hours I start getting problems with all audio and/or video playback. Sound distorts, crackles, skips, and video skips and freezes every few seconds while playing. When this happens, I restart my PC and everything works fine again for another several hours.

This happens with all audio or video files on PC locally (mp3,avi,h264,mp4,aif,flac etc.) and also any steamed video or audio (youtube, vimeo, pandora, soundcloud etc.)

PC specs:
Asus Maximus V Formula/ThunderFX
32GB Corsair CMZ32GX3M4X1600C10
Intel 3770K
Asus GTX 780
Seasonic X-1050 PSU
Crucial M500 240 with Windows 7 x64

Temps look fine, nothing overheating.

I have tried the following without success:

- Swapped out the speakers I was using, tried using headphones, get the same result.
- Tested the PSU, all voltages are fine
- Swapped out the PSU, same issue persists
- Changed to several different internal and one external sound card, issue persists

Any ideas?

That's what I was thinking too and afraid of. I have't tried reinstalling mobo drivers yet, I'll give it a go.

What do you mean by mode?

After a lot of troubleshooting I found that this issue was caused by, oddly enough, a USB expansion card.

When I removed the following card from my system this issue completely went away:

ORICO PVU3-5O2U Monster USB3.0 7 - Port PCI Express Card with VL800 and VL812 USB3.0 Controller

I was using the latest driver from VIA.
