Older gaming pc. Need help deciding if its time to upgrade to a new pc or get a new Gpu.

So I got an older gaming pc pc.
-mobo is a nForce 790i Ultra SLI
-cpu Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 @ 2.66GHz (stock)
-gpu asus GTX 560 Ti 1gb

Its a good pc but its starting to show its age. My question is, would it do any good if I put in a new gpu? will i see a good performance upgrade, or is my cpu just going to bottleneck cpu intensive games?

You would probably get some good performance if you did a upgrade. it will definitely bottleneck some of the newer games though.

Upgrading the GPU would give you a frame rate boost, but you'll see big frame rate drops on stronger cards because of the CPU. It won't 'bottleneck' the GPU, but the CPU will definitely show its age when anything requiring CPU power comes into play.

What you could do is bring the 560 Ti over into the new build and SLI it, unless you have a monitor resolution of greater than 768p

That system shows its age in Cpu intensive games. You should a full system revamp.
Heres what I think you should do for 1080p

Cpu: Intel 4670k
Cpu cooler: H80i
Psu: Corsair 750 watt bronze edition
Ram: 8gb g skill
Graphics card: Gtx 770 2gb windforce
Motherboard: Asus Maximus VI hero
HDD: 1tb seagate barracuda 7200 rpm
SSD: 120 gb Samsung Evo 830
Case: Corsair obsidian 450D

For 1440p

Cpu: Intel 4670k
Cpu cooler: H100i
Psu: Corsair 850 watt bronze edition
Ram: 8gb g skill
Graphics card: Gtx 780 windforce
Motherboard: Asus Maximus VI hero
HDD: 4tb seagate barracuda 7200 rpm
SSD: 120 gb Samsung Evo 830
Case: Corsair obsidian 450D

For 4k

Cpu: Intel 4930k or 4960k
Cpu cooler: H100i
Psu: Corsair Professional Series AX 1200
Ram: 16gb g skill
Graphics card: 2 way sli Gtx 780ti
Motherboard: Asus Rampage IV Black Edition
HDD: 2x 4tb seagate barracuda 7200rpm
SSD: 120 gb Samsung Evo 830
Case: Corsair obsidian 750D

To answer your questions you need to do a system revamp with that old hardware
Each one of these systems will run their respective resolution quite well

You will see some improvement but not as much as redoing the computer

I have a similar build i7 920 with a pair of 560ti's and I noticed that my FPS is drastically affected by its speed. Seems the 3.6ghz point is the sweet spot for 1920x1200 game play at med-high settings. My system is not stable at that speed and even a little buggy at 3.0 so OC'ing isn't a option for me.

I was asking if the new Celeron G1850 (3.4ghz) or the Pentium G3450 (3.4ghz) and a H97 motherboard and the same 560ti card would perform better and or could you upgrade the graphics card without the CPU bottlenecking it.

I am simply looking to not spend as much in upgrades anymore since I have heard that the sub $100.00 CPU's can game just fine. So now I am just looking for the best bang for the buck gaming upgrade path.
