Win 7 sys 32
Intel(R) Pentium(R) D CPU 2.80GHz, 2793 Mhz, 2 Core(s
Physical Memory (RAM) 5.00 GB
Intel(R) G965 Express Chipset Family
-------------------------------------------------
I use two internal hard drives off an on in case of a fail. a 250gb & a 500gb.
I was using the 500 when I picked up a virus and system froze - reboot - worked very sporadically
froze over and over. used every kind of scan for malware,(bytes), junk files, avast, ccleaner, norton utilities, internal defrag, comm-promt- sfc scan, Safemode w/net, sometimes could get it to go online and most of the time I couldn't. so after scans and scans for a few days, I gave up and switched to the 250. it's win 7 as well. when I wasn't aggravated about it, I'd switch to the 500 and work on it some more. after 2 more days of that i said screw it, it's beyond my paycheck level. I finally got online long enough to D/L advanced system care. but it froze after I did. rebooted, started it and THAT froze too. rebooted again and ASC worked, That and Malware bytes anti root kit got it navigating again. then it quit. so as a last resort I did a system restore and it only allowed me 3 days back. when it came back up, the M215 Logitech mouse did not work anymore. neither did two other mice I had. I had to use the keypad. if you've had the unpleasure of using the keypad you'd know that it's PAINFULLY slow and i was completely pissed off by that point. got a hold of Logitech on the phone, explained. they emailed me the Driver. installed it and Nothing.
the error msg is that it's not recognizing the receiver. I've switched to every USB port on my machine. I called them back, did some troubleshooting and nothing.
**now get this..... the mouse works fine using the 250 drive and so does the other 2 mice,
but NOT the 500gb drive.
Logitech offered to send me a new mouse. it's not here yet, maybe a couple days. so i switched back to the 250 again and been on it ever since. the mouse works fine on this. no problem at all.
2 more times I switched to see and just for the Hell of it and I installed the driver again. nothing. switched back to the 250 and the mouse works fine. beets the Hell outta me what's going on.
in the past, I would just wipe the drive and install the OS again but I have a MASSIVE amount of personal things on it - Music - movies - photos that I'd NEVER get back. at least I backed up my docs. but I don't have another 500gb drive for an entire back up. no $$. out of a job right now.
soo..... I don't know..
never experienced this challenge before and it's kicking my ass.
score must be 13 - 2 by now top of the 9th... bases loaded

Solution
So if I understand it correctly, everything's working fine when you boot from your 250GB drive, but there is data you need on the 500GB drive?

Why don't you put both those HDDs in at the same time? Make sure you boot from the 250GB Drive, once booted, Windows will find your 500GB drive and you'll have access to all the files you need. NOTE, that you'd still have to reinstall any programs that were installed on the 500GB Windows boot, but if it's just files you need, that solution would work.

You may need a SATA cable, but that shouldn't be more than a couple of dollars. You could also potentially just pinch the one out of your CD/DVD drive if you can survive without it.

Hello rhysiam,
Yeah... Moose - house is not hice - why isn't dice douse, - plural of ox should be oxen not oxes.
I give you a boot, but would a pair be called beet ?
Then one may be that, and three would be those,
Yet the plural of hat would never be hose.
ok, ok. enough of that humor for 1 answer...
I understand that the 500 can be a slave. I had the 500 - the 250 AND an 80 all running but something happened last year I don't remember what and when I try to run them in port 4 or 5 now ( which I did last week ) it recognizes them in the bios but not in Windows. yes both ports are enabled. I did turn them both off rebooted and turned them both back on again.
( just in case) can you think of another fix to try ? I'm out of intelligent questions for this issue. I mean I CAN try that again, what the hell...
tried everything ELSE twice or 3 times....
that was a quick reply thank you. I didn't expect it so soon....

that's a whole other subject.

* Update ....
I received the NEW Moose from Logitech. unplugged the 80 gig and plugged the 500gig back in.plugged the receiver from the new mouse in and booted the machine up.
the driver for the new mouse loaded and the new mouse doesn't work either.
I give up - I G I V E UP ! this is the dumbest problem I've ever seen, heard or whatever else. so now 4 different mice do not work with that 500 gig drive. all because I did a system restore. it worked before I did that.
as far as I can tell. I've tried searching for every place to make changes in the settings for it to work and have been unsuccessful.
this is stupid. I just don't get it. after finally getting the hard drive functional again I STILL can't use it - per say.... I can use the keypad but screw that anymore. it's so flipping slow I don't have the patience for it any longer. I don't know how else you guys out here can help with this.
watch it be something really simple I over looked ...
anyone feel like taking this on ???
