Hi everyone. As the the title suggest, that is the problem i currently facing. Currently, my processor sitting idle at 40c. I've change my cpu cooler to Hyper 212X and still get that temperature while idling. The only changes is the max temperature of the cpu when encoding video. The idling temperature seems like has been locked by something. Is there any software that can change the preferred idling temperature? I've tried to increase the cpu fan speed, but the temperature would stay the same. (I'm using G1 Sniper Z87 motherboard) I've been lurking around the forum and found some user can get the cpu temperature lower than that. Any input is appreciated. Thanks.

How is the air circulation in your room? I use a i7 3930k and today it was 94F outside and my idle temp was right around 40c with just the window open. If I put the fan in and get a nice circulation of air it reads mid 30's. It helps a lot

have you enabled intel xmp profile?
ive noiticed when running intel xmp the cpu clock speed is locked at 3.9 ghz
and if you are running the intel burn test tool it stresses the cpu more than prime.
with prime and a stock coler it should not go over 80.
be advised prime stresses your cpu way more than you will ever stress it in real life aplications .
even with battlefield that it is cpu intense with its frostbite 3 engine it doesent go over 70 with stock cpu cooler.
72.2 is what intel has for max temperature.

If there's nothing I can do, I might as well have to just accept it. Thanks for your input though :)

ive just updated my post above what program do you use to stress the cpu?

I didn't stress the cpu using a cpu stressing program yet because I kind of afraid of the temperature. The max temperature that I got is from encoding video using TX264 using 100% cpu. And I monitor the temperature using HWMonitor.

I found my temperatures quite high initially with my i7 4770K and I was using a closed loop. What I discovered was my motherboard was supplying 1.2V for Vcore on Auto and that was without an overclock. You should look into using Adaptive or Offset for adjusting Vcore to the lowest possible value without becoming unstable.

I used Manual, because I don't use Speed Step. However if you want the power save features to work, you can't use Manual. In my case I crunch WCG work units while I'm not using my computer, so it wouldn't lower my Vcore or multi even if I did use Speed Step.

Ultimately I ended up running 1.088V with all 4 cores overclocked to 4.1GHz. So I am quite sure you should be able to get down close to 1.0V at stock.

I've run the prime95 torture test (In-place large FFTs) for about 30 minutes. The max temperature is 75c using Core Temp. It seems ok to me just the idling temperature is bugging me. :(

Hi. I've managed to reduce the vcore to 1.05v. I've tried to reduce it to 1.0v but it resulted to blue screen. But the idle temperature stay the same now. Seems like I can't do anything. But the max temperature seems ok to me. So, with idling temperature at 40c, it won't give me problem if I'm using it for a long time? Like degrading or something like that in the future. If it give no problem, I'll just accept it then. :)

The room temperature is about 24c-25c. Maybe I should invest some money to buy some casing fan to take more fresh air into the case. Thank you for your input :)

Ok. I think I'll add more fans to the casing to take more air into it. Thank you for your help :)
