Okay so I have a strange problem here with Windows 8. I have two hard drives in my rig, a 500 GB WD Black and a 1 TB WD Velociraptor. Right now, I have selected the velociraptor as my primary boot drive (I used to use my black drive as my primary). I have since reformatted my 500 GB drive and I use it for backup and miscellaneous storage. Whevever I boot up, I am taken to a screen where I am asked if I want to boot Windows 8.1 or Windows 8. If I select windows 8.1, I am taken to my start page. If I select windows 8, I am given a blue screen. The other day, I was upgrading my system, and to test it, I simply plugged in the velociraptor and the system would not boot. When I hooked both hard drives up, it did. Does anyone understand what is going on here?

Thanks

:)  Yup....
Basically, I think Win 8 just doesn't exist on the drive since you most probably Upgraded from 8 to 8.1, since most of the critical Systems files must have been upgraded in the Win 8 Installation Dir, and since you boot into it the systems just can't co-relate the files to the original win 8. Thus giving you a blue screen.

Since the old 500GB hdd still has the MBR on it from the very first installation times , the startup keeps getting confused when you hook up both drives internally. Win 8 is going to point to 2 Sources, one is the old installation on the 500gb and the Pre Upgrade installation on the Veloci....
Which in turn ain't working..... so it's going to get stuck in in infinite circle of not coming on....

Exactly as ayoshka says, but if you want rid of the dual boot screen, Windows key plus R type msconfig then enter, on the Boot tab delete the link to W8...
