My PC shuts down on its own while i am working.

I have got a antivirus too and this is not done by a virus.After my MOBO changed i think its PSU is not working properly.Some times even after shutting down the computer the PSU remains on or sometimes it closes on its own.It is resulting in great loss to my data.Please help.
PC SPECS-
PENTIUM D@2.80 GHz (2 CPU)
2 GB DDR2 RAM
INTEL GM965 EXPRESS CHIPSET
ASUS GT 210 1 GB DDR3
300W PSU
160 GB HDD

Well you already narrowed down the culprit, if you can test your pc on a different psu, then we can contruct another basis of the failure.

New problem-I got an 250 GB External HDD and when i connect it to my PC and open any program in it like i got BF2 setup in it and i open it and as soon as it loads on selecting drive for instalaltion then the whole PC shuts down.I have checked that its not overheating.THIS ONLY STARTED AFTER I CHANGED MY MOBO.

like i said, if you can test your pc on a different psu, then we can check for other causes of failure.

but if you did change your mobo, then that would complicate the situation because you may be using a faulty motherboard.

I would ask the repairman to replace the mobo and get a 450W.One more thing-today i copied CSS setup to my pc from that HDD and ran it and on installing till 12% the PC always broke its connection from power and then i directly extracted that setup files then nothing happened.It worked fine.Its getting very complicated.PLEASE HELP.

ok... so the computer just basically shut's down in the middle of installing CSS..

i have a few questions, please answer them as much as you can.

1. does your computer slows down when your just using the web browser?

2. do you hear any "clicking" noise from the side of your computer?

3. when was the last time you removed the dust build up inside your computer case?

Answers-
1.Yes my computer slows down only after it is forced to shut down due to pwer cut off.
2.No clicking sound is heard.Only one sound comes after the computer cuts of Power and that comes from the monitor.A "ghcizzzzzz" sound.
3.After my computer was brought back from repairing i cleaned it up but the PSU is full of dust.I can see the fan turned from black to brown.
And Thank you for paying attention to my problem and answering to it.
One more point-The computer does not cuts of power when left idle like its just on right now and i am using my laptop to text this message.
ONE MORE POINT-ONCE I WANTED TO INSTALL WIN XP ON MY PC WHEN THE OLD MOBO WAS THERE AND THEN WHILE SCANNING BEFORE INSTALLING IT SAID LOCAL DISK D IS CORRUPTED SO CANNOT PROCEED FURTHER.

You can try fresh re install of the OS..

if this doesnt solve the problem then, dont bring your pc back to the repair guy.

RMA the mobo. Then check the forums for intructions to install your components after the replacement.

Okay,I think i will do it and buy a gigabyte mobo but can you tell me which mobo of gigabyte is compatible Pentium D 820 @ 2.80 GHz with pin attachment.
