Hello,

I'm going to assume this is a driver problem but for a few weeks now when I turn my computer on the fan speed is set to 100% until I open msi afterburner and manually lower it.

However this morning I tried to lower it and the temprature was on 148 degrees C and the fan speed wouldn't budge from 100%. I restarted the computer, installed drivers etc and now it reads 20% fan speed despite it being 100% and sounding like a hoover! and the temperature reads -134 degrees C.

Anyone got any ideas?

I'll list my specs :

i5 2500K
Msi GD-53
AMD 6950 2GB
Antec 750W HCG Psu

Thanks,

Sean.

Sorry misread. So reread my post and just replace words CPU with GPU.
148 degree is insanely high. It must be wrong temp reading because your card would stop working with such temps. And guess because of those wrong readings fan is at 100% trying to desperately cool down GPU.
But it altest explains why it do not shut down your PC because it does only with CPU (unless you got some monitoring soft and set it in there).

So try some other monitoring software if it gets same readings, for example GPU-Z.
If it does you can try to RMA your gpu if you got it still in warranty. You can also try to update all drivers you got in hope that it may fix that problem but dont give it high hope.

Worst case scenario you would have to live with fans at...

148 C ? If you had 148 your PC should have shut down itself long before that. Most CPU shutdown when they reach 100 so either you have faulty thermal diode or software you use can't get accurate reading. Try to get Core temp or real temp. Reasy why fan run at 100% may be fact that if it gets such reading it thinks it should try to cool it down. Other question is why your PC do not shut down when it got such readings as that temperature is dangerous for your PC components.
