I'm rebuiding my PC and have been recommended an ASRock B85 Pro4 Mobo, but have two suggestions for the CPU, as in the title. I've only used Intel's before, so I'm unsure as to AMD products. On the face of it, the AMD seems the better CPU, what say you? Also, can I assume that the LGA 1150 is the same or equivalent to the AM3+? If that is the case, from my research it would seem that a Mobo with an AM3+ socket might be the better future proofing option. Do you know of a Mobo with AM3+ at a similar cost?

Solution
For most gaming scenarios the i3 is overall better. There are a few games where the AMD will be better. For things like x264 encoding the AMD will be better. If they were sitting side by side you'd probably be hard pressed to tell the difference. The Intel has the added benefit of lower power usage, and upgradability to i5's and i7's.

Hi,
You will have better upgrade path with LGA 1150, than AM3+. Using the B85 Motherboard now with Intel's i3, you will be able to install i5 or i7 in the future, while with the AM3+ socket (which is 2 years old now), you will be able to upgrade to FX 8300 series.
It all depends on your budget and upgrade paths. Both the i3 and FX 6300 have similar performance.

Thank you. I wanted to pick your answer as the solution too, but I only get one choice apparently. :)
