The 610 has a small fan on it,right? Is it spinning when you start the PC?
A 500watt PSU(even a cheap one) should be more than enough to push a gt610 so i cant think of anything but heat causing it to shut down to prevent damage.

get the lastest release drivers installed

run something like gpuz or hwinfo and check you GPU temp and see if it's getting to hot

If either it gets too hot or not, if your GPU and CPU fans are spinning ok and it's still shutting down, sounds like you might have unfortunately bought a faulty gpu
