pc wont work with graphics card

hi
I have a AMD FX(tm)-4130 Quad-Core Processor.
A GIGABYTE 78LMT-USB3 mother board.

so i went and got a NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 610 and put it on to my pc. but after about 2 minutes windows keeps shutting down to provent damage.
could someone please tell me what is happening

what PSU do you have? the system requirements for that card state 300W, so you need to at least be close to that

also, have you installed the latest release drivers from nvidia?

Automatic shutdowns to "Prevent damage" are usually cause by heat. You didnt move a cable into your CPU fan by mistake while installing the card,did you? Id check!

when i take the graphics card out and run the pc it is fine so no i dont think i have moved a wire

The 610 has a small fan on it,right? Is it spinning when you start the PC?
A 500watt PSU(even a cheap one) should be more than enough to push a gt610 so i cant think of anything but heat causing it to shut down to prevent damage.

get the lastest release drivers installed

run something like gpuz or hwinfo and check you GPU temp and see if it's getting to hot

If either it gets too hot or not, if your GPU and CPU fans are spinning ok and it's still shutting down, sounds like you might have unfortunately bought a faulty gpu
