Hello guys

I recently bought a new pc and i'm facing a problem with the case's USB 3.0 ports.

CASE: Thermaltake Chaser MK-I
Motherboard: ASUS Maximus VI Formula

So the problem is this : The case has at the front 2 x USB 3.0 and 2 x USB 2.0 ports
When i connect a memory stick (USB 3) at the USB 3 port everything works fine. But when i connect my 2.5 '' Hard Drive at either one of the USB 3 ports the drive is malfunctioning. Windows (7 Professional) recognizes the hard drive it may work ok for a while but the drive often disappears and windows pops up a message saying the drive needs to be formatted.

Now if i connect the drive to the case's USB 2.0 ports it works without a single problem. I've tested the hard drive on a couple of pc and i'm pretty sure that there's nothing wrong with it. Moreover the hard drive works perfectly if i connect it straight on the motherboard's USB 3.0 ports.

So what do you think? Is this some kind of a power problem caused by drivers? If so why is the drive working when connected straight on the motherboard or at the case's USB 2.0 ports ?

Thanks in advance

hey. entirely possible that there is not enough power being drawn through the usb header leading to the front panel usb3 ports. this can be either the cable connecting or your mobo. only way you will find out which is by laying your hands on another mobo, case with usb 3 ports or grabbing a usb 3 header to female adapter and trying that. would highly recommend updating your bios if it is not up to date.

I've updated bios and every single driver for the motherboard and problem is still there...If it's a power issue how is it possible that the hard drive works perfect when connected on a USB 2.0 port and malfunctioning when connected on a USB 3.0 port of the case. It's the same USB extension after all. Maybe a driver's issue? I don't know really confusing !
