The XFX is the superior supply , the HX 850 models are made by CWT.

Don't buy either get this EVGA 850 watt Gold, :D

Honestly, I'd be happy with either; they're both very good. If fully modular cables appeal to you, go for the XFX, but other than that, I think you'll be happy with either of them.

EDIT: It looks like the XFX only has a 5 year warranty while the Corsair has a 7 year one. Just thought I'd mention it in case it influences your decision.

Not true, most Corsair units aren't actually Seasonic units, most are CWT built. Seasonic has only built 16 Corsair models, 7 of which are now discontinued, while CWT has made 54 different models. The HX750 and up are CWT built units.


The XFX is built on the Seasonic KM3 platform which is the same as the discontinued Corsair AX850, it is a good unit but so is the corsair. With the price difference being what it is, you can either go for the Corsair for the longer warranty, or which ever you think looks cooler. Performance-wise they are very similar, and should both have quite a long lifespan.

Amazing ripple suppression the likes of which has only been seen a handful of times on this site means no points removed there. And finally, yes, this unit did manage to hold onto an average of 1.2% regulation in the hot box so no points come off there, either. This guy's getting a 10.

Functionality (20% of the final score) - full modularity. Lots of cables. Good cable lengths. Plenty of connectors. Switchable semi-fanless mode. Lots of goodies in the box. Nice size 16 gauge line cord. I really can't think of anything to complain about here, either. 10.

Value (20% of the final score) - $144.99 is the asking price of these at Newegg right about now. It shares this price with the Silverstone ST85F-GS. Now, about the only thing that unit has on this one is its much shallower depth. Other competition? What other competition? Coolmax? More money, if you can believe that. Corsair HX850? More money. Corsair RM850? More money. Themaltake Toughpower Grand? More money. Seasonic X-850 KM3? Way more money. EVGA has this category locked right down. 10.

Build Quality (20% of the final score) - I'm going to remove a point for the fan control wiring and be done with it on this one. Soldering is good enough to pass with no deductions, the AC line filter is pretty much all there in the end, the component selections are fantastic, and the capacitors are wall to wall Japanese. 9.5.

For some irrational reason, seeing or hearing the name Super Flower always puts a smile on my face :) EVGA made a good decision in choosing to go with these Super Flower based units though; a very good mix of affordability and quality (10 year warranty!). Good spot on that "Shell Shocker" deal; OP better jump on it quick!
