I have recently created a factory/system recovery on my Samsung m3 external hard drive with 1.5tb, however after I created the factory recovery on my hard drive total memory went from 1.5tb to 50gb with the new files.

Is there a way to get the memory space back? I don't really care about the deleted data.

I have used the dell software that came with my laptop to create the recovery

Stop using the drive any further. Try to use "RECUVA" on the drive.

In my experiences, as to the stored data, a data recovery tool can helps a lot, like Recuva, 4Card Recovery and Power Data Recovery, etc.
As to your drive space, you may try to format it and check it again.
