I realise it wont fit inside the case though i wish to have it external rather than cad switching, i also know some how i will need more power?? I have heard of external power to gpu but tbh im a bit of a noob

Please help thanks i wish to keep my x51 forever

woohoo, so I can recommend my cheapo case. Thanks Eduello.

I just bought 3 of these http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=3828299&CatId=1509

It is $40 out of pocket after a $5 coupon but there is a $20 rebate. Just make sure to print out the invoice after logging into the merchant's website to qualify for the rebates.

A good quality power supply is really really important.

I am keeping my computers forever too (HP p7-1436s, p6-2316s and p6516f). I put all the components in the above cougar case which has a 12 inch video card clearance which will fit the massive amd 280/290 / gtx 770/780 video cards so I am going to wait a couple of years for the amd 28/290 / gtx 770/780 to drop in price and then...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini-ITX

The four mounting holes in a Mini-ITX board line up with four of the holes in ATX-specification motherboards, and the locations of the backplate and expansion slot are the same[2] (though one of the holes used was optional in earlier versions of the ATX spec). Mini-ITX boards can therefore often be used in cases designed for ATX, micro-ATX and other ATX variants if desired.

Get a new power supply and a new case if you want to upgrade to new and better video cards.
