Hello there, I am having some trouble overclocking my AMD Athlon X4 740, and I can't seem to find what the problem is. The motherboard I am using is the MSI A55M-33 and I don't seem to be able to push the base clock anywhere past 105 Mhz. I also can't seem to find any info on the max voltage of this CPU. This is my first attempt at Overclocking so some help would be appreciated. My relevant specs are:

CPU: AMD Athlon X4 740 3.2 Ghz (Overclocked to a mere 3.36Ghz)
CPU Cooler: CoolerMaster 212 EVO
Motherboard: MSI A55M-33

Have a nice day :)

That's because on that platform the base clock is tied to the pci bus, and when you increase pci much at all it screws up your HDDs and stuff it has little tolerance. Sorry you should have got an unlocked K processor for overclocking.

Can you return it and get 750K or 760K?

The return policy on this CPU is that I have to return it within 7 days (I got it way back on March 28) and it must be unopened. So yeah, I think I may be stuck with this non-overclockable CPU for a while... at least its probably gonna last longer with the bigger cooler and no overclock right?

If I had the extra money, I would pay for a GTX 750Ti since gaming on a GT 520 is not the best idea... I should I have mentioned that I am actually a 15 year old with no consistent income. I could in theory sell it, but if I did sell it I would not have enough to buy a 750k. So unless there is a magical way on the internet at a rate of at least £100 a month or so, I will have to do with what I have.
