got a new ssd and am installing windows 8.1 onto it.

the problem im having is that on the getting files ready for installation it got stuck at 58% and has been there for like 20 min. it was flying threw the percentages then bam it stoped.

is there a good way to exit out and try to start over or will i screw something up if it hit the red x

I suppose you could wait for an error message to eventually show itself, but it's likely an inability to either read the DVD or write to the SSD. To rule out the former make sure the DVD is clean and not scratched. If the error is with the SSD you need to DL diagnostic software from the mfg. website and run it.

how long does it take for an error message to pop up if there is an issue with the disk or the download?

also if its the disk if i already have the product code is there a way i can go online and download windows to a new dvd and use that one?

How long I do not know, eventually probably, LOL.

OK, so you DL an image and burned it to a DVD? If so the problem is likely with the burn or the disc itself and not the DL, so just re-burn the same image to another disk, preferably a different brand, and then burn it more slowly by adjusting the x factor down a bit.

I take it that circular mark in the middle is not normal, LOL? Yes, looks like it was moved while running. Honestly not sure about DVD size but there should be instructions accompanying the DL.

ok i burned the disk from windows websight i went to run it but it says no operating system found.

i put it back in this computer to see what was on it.. its a winrar iso file that i double clicked and it has...

folders are ... boot, efi, sources, support
files are ... autorun.inf, boot mgr, bootmgr.efi, mediameta.xml, setup.exe

if all that stuff got put on the cd why wont i read it on the system im trying to boot up?

If you are seeing an iso file on the disk then you didn't burn it as an 'image' file. In other words it's still compressed. Re-burn it but in your burning software make sure you have selected 'image file', it sounds like you merely copied the iso to a disk. The end result should be seeing all those files on the dvd without having to double click it.
