For serious editing, try a X79/LGA 2011 pc with a 6 core cpu (i7 4930k) and 16+GB fast ram and have a good video card for hardware acceleration.
You will also need a big or multiple hdds.
Google the builds - 'tom's $2500 editing build' and get eg http://www.tomshardware.com/answers/id-1909487/top-end-...

I would only go X79 if you really need the extra cores and the 64GB max RAM capacity. For most purposes you only need 16GB. 32GB if you're working with huge files. If you're just editing videos for Youtube consumption, you don't need a ton of processing power.

Maybe try something like this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K 3.5GHz Quad-Core Processor ($319.99 @ Amazon)
CPU Cooler: Thermaltake Water 3.0 Extreme 99.0 CFM Liquid CPU Cooler ($85.98 @ Newegg)
Motherboard: ASRock Z87 Extreme6 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard ($148.49 @ Newegg)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws Z Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-2133 Memory ($159.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB 2.5" Solid State Disk ($154.99 @ Best Buy)
Storage: Seagate Barracuda 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive ($54.44 @ Amazon)
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 3GB Superclocked ACX Video Card ($499.99 @ NCIX US)
Case: Fractal Design Define R4 w/Window (Titanium Grey) ATX Mid Tower Case ($121.98 @ Amazon)
Power Supply: EVGA 850W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply ($118.56 @ Newegg)
Optical Drive: Lite-On iHAS124-04 DVD/CD Writer ($23.99 @ Amazon)
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (OEM) (64-bit) ($89.99 @ NCIX US)
Total: $1778.39
(Prices include shipping, taxes, and discounts when available.)

Yea for the most part It'll just be editing gameplay, merging different videos and adding some sound effects or effects.

You don't even need a 4770K for that purpose then, you can get by with a 4670K. Then invest the difference in upgrading to a 780 SLI setup.

actually you could still use that build and add another 780 to sli it, and stay under your 2500 budget......unless you wanna step up to muilt monitors.

That is a good point but for most uses you don't really need an i7, it's not worth the extra hundred bucks if you ask me. I would put the money into the GPU / monitor setup. For that kind of budget you could get a 780TI setup and at least one, maybe a couple of 1440P monitors for a little over $2500.
