I just purchase an MSI R9 280 with 3GB of VRAM. My friend has gtx 760 running skyrim on ultra with an ENB with 60 fps no problem. Mine has trouble getting 45. He has the Sharpshooters ENB and I have Skyrim Enhanced Shaders. Why am I getting worse FPS. I was hoping to get around 65-70 with an ENB.

System:
FX-4100
EVGA 600W PSU
R9 280
1tb HDD

Friend's Specs:
i5-4430
CX600W PSU
GTX 760
1 tb HDD

Solution

So, if I were to upgrade to an FX-8350, would I be able to get the same fps? I don't want to change my motherboard.

So FX-8350 with a Hyper 212 EVO? That sounds pretty solid to me. Can't wait thanks! I was wondering why I got such relatively low framerates. Because it is a pretty good GPU if I do say so myself.

A lot will depend on your motherboard. It may or may not support an 8350 which is an am3+ CPU. You'll have to check the socket. Some 760g and 970 chipsets will also need a bios upgrade. Also TDP is a concern. The 8350 is a 125w TDP CPU. Some older mobo's only support up to a 95w TDP CPU.
