ssd not in boot priority list but is recognized

got an asus z87-a board with a ssd and standard hdd and dvd drive pluged in.

when i boot and go to bios only the disk drive and hdd are on the boot priority list i want to boot off of the ssd which already has windows 8.1 on it.

what i dont under stand is if i go to sata info or boot menue all 3 drives are listed and if i click ssd it will load up fine so why isnt it on the boot priority list so i can put it first?


also if i click ssd threw the sata info and boot into windows my 500g WD drive isnt listed under drives just the ssd is so idk wtf is going on.

Have had this happen before....you can't but what you wnat 1st in the list if it's not n the list.

1. Put the SSD on the lowest numbered Intel SATA port ..... and leave other 2 data cables unlugged.

2. Try Booting to window and if successful, shut down.

3. Connect HD data cable to 2nd lowest SATA, port, rinse and repeat.

4. Connect DVD to 3rd lowest .....

5. If still doesn't work, set BIOS to defaults and repeat steps 1 -4

6. If that doesn't work, reinstall or update BIOS and repeat steps 1 -4.

I got to step 5 once..... step 6 twice. Sometimes ya don't need all the steps but it helps fr troubleshooting purposes.

unpluged them all have ssd with 8.1 on it in #1 and powered on but it just goes strait into bios now not into windows.

1. Any chance you used data migration software to clone the hard disk drive to the ssd? The software works reasonably well but sometimes problems develop. That is one reason why a fresh clean install is the preferred method.

2. Any chance the hard disk drive had Windows 8.1 on it and was connected when you installed the OS on the ssd? When there are operating systems installed on both an ssd and a hard drive a computer sometimes gets confused. I know it sounds weird and it is very rare but it can happen.

3. You mentioned Microsoft Windows 8.1. It is my understanding that Windows 8.1 does not always play nice with ssd's.
