FM2 processor with PCI 3.0 graphics card

I have an FM2 (AMD A8 5600k) processor and my motherboard (Asrock Fatal1ty Killer FM2A88x+) has 2 VGA slot. PCI-E 3.0 and PCI-E 2.0. It says that if your processor is only FM2 then you should use PCI-E 2.0 slot. However, my graphics card (MSI HD7750) is PCI-E 3.0.

My question is, where should i put my VGA card? PCI-E 3.0 slot or PCI-E 2.0 slot?

It will run at 2.0 speeds on the 3.0 slot if that is all your cpu is capable of.

If you had a CPU controller that was capable of 3.0...

The top red slot marked 3.0 x16.


The bottom runs at x4 and is not suitable for a gpu.

Is it ok if I put it there even though my processor is only an FM2 (not an FM2+)?

It says that PCI-E 3.0 will only run if your processor is FM2+

It will run at 2.0 speeds on the 3.0 slot if that is all your cpu is capable of.

If you had a CPU controller that was capable of 3.0 and a 2.0 Video Card, the slot would still only run at 2.0.

The 3.0 slot will throttle down to 2.0 speeds.
