Hey Guys,
I’ve recently had a chance to unload most of my computer parts for a work server, so I have the fun opportunity to build myself a new Windows 8 computer. I’m going to be using this computer for doing stuff like web browsing, media server, gaming, studio recording, video editing, Photoshop, etc. I was hoping that it could be small, and as quiet as possible, while at the same time maybe not take up so much energy (it needs to stay running all day long, for weeks at a time so I don’t want my power bill to go crazy).
This is the equipment I currently have that I will want to fit into this computer:
- 1 EVGA GeForce GTX 560 Graphics Card (8.25" x 4.38")
- 1 512GB SSD (Samsung EVO)
- Syba 5.25-Inch Dual Bay Mobile Rack for both 2.5-Inch and 3.25-Inch SATA HDD Plus 2 USB 3.0 Ports SY-MRA55006
- Rosewill RCR-IC001 USB 2.0 3.5-Inch Internal Card Reader with USB Port
- SYBBA PCI-E Firewire adapter
And here’s the stuff I want to buy:
- ASUS GRYPHON Z97 LGA 1150 Intel Z97 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 Micro ATX Intel Motherboard
- Another Samsung SSD 512GB EVO
- CORSAIR Hydro Series H55 Quiet Edition Water / Liquid CPU Cooler. 120mm
- Corsair Vengeance Pro 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR3-1866 Memory
- SilverStone Temjin Series TJ08B-E steel body MicroATX Mini Tower Computer Case
- XFX XTR Series P1-650B-BEFX 650W Power Supply
Now here are some questions I had that I was hoping you guys can help me with
- Which CPU should I get? Since I have to wait another week or so for the Asus Motherboard to come out, I was thinking about waiting a little more for the new Overclocking friendly Intel’s “Devil Canyons”, or the Haswell-E? these are supposed to be release 2nd half of 2014, which is only a month away, Which CPU would you get if you were me? Sticking within the $300-$400 range (or maybe a bit more if you think it’s justified)
- Is my power supply physically small enough to fit in the case? Silverstone claims the TJ08B can fit a power supply up to 160mm, this is the smallest one I can find that still has any power. Do you think I’ll have an issue with it fitting in the case? And will I have an issue with it powering all the parts I have?
- Will all the other parts fit? Can you find any glaring compatibility or performance issues? Is there a part you would substitute? And if so, why?
