Noctua NF-A14 PWM Needs A Push Start

I put most of my system together at the beginning of the year and I have all Noctua fans as case and radiator fans. My rear fan is a Noctua NF-A14 PWM set as exhaust (without the low power adapter) and is plugged into the "SYS FAN". It works just fine, but in the last few days I noticed that it occasionally stops working. I can see that its trying to start itself up again, but needs a little push to get going again.

Would anyone happen to know what's wrong with it? I am running with a Corsair AX1200 so I'd hope there's enough power and my mobo is a GIGABYTE GA-Z87-OC. I'm afraid my system may overheat if I'm not careful.

This actually has happened to me as well. I have two of them in my second system on an H110, and they will stop because the motherboard isn't detecting it because it's spinning too low. Your best bet would be to go into the bios or your choice of fan controlling software and turn them up a little bit. Around 600RPM should do it, although since it's your exhaust, I would probably set it to 1000RPM or whatever your noise tolerance is.

This is a per motherboard thing, I've had three different motherboards in that system and the first two (MSI Z87 G45 and ASUS Maximus VI Hero) both needed this. My newest motherboard, ASUS X79 Deluxe doesn't have this problem for some reason.

You're welcome! If it doesn't work. let me know. I still have the Z87 G45 laying around, so I might be able to help you with the issue. Oh! and make sure and remove the adapter to run it at a lower voltage/speed. That will interfere with you getting to the higher RPMs, which could prevent you from fixing the issue.

Working so far. I'll reply again if something happens, but I'll consider it "solved" for now. Also, I didn't know that another person could mark a "best solution" for me.

Thanks a ton for this explanation. I'll have to look into some software to control it since I can't figure out the manual fan settings and I'm just running the case fans at full blast for now. You've been most helpful.
