Hello All,

So I'm not particularly clued up or up-to-date when it comes to PC building and would love dome advice. I need a PC for music production - using Cubase to lay down demo's hassle free - as well as general use (web-browsing watching films, listening to music etc) My current PC is around 8 years old; the lag is appalling and just cant handle more than 10 tracks with plug ins. The PC is usually left on 24/7 and I want something that's going to last another 8 years, so something that doesn't overheat/with a long lifespan.

I want to spend no more than £200

I already have:
CASE: Novatech Galaxy III Case with g7 Extreme 680w psu
CD/DVD DRIVE: yes
GRAPHICS: Nvidia 9500gt PCI-E ddr2 512mb ( I wont be playing any games )
HD: Samsung Spinpoint hd403lj 400gb
HD2: Western Digital wd5000aads Sata 500gb
WIRELESS: TP Link 802.11
AUDIO: TASCAM FW-1082 Audio/MIDI Interface
GOT MONITOR, SPEAKERS, KEYBOARD AND MOUSE etc

I'm in the UK and have noticed that this website http://www.casetac.com/ seems to have much lower prices than others (if its dodgy let me know)

What I'd like is:
MOBO: Suggestions please
PROCESSOR: Something like Intel i5 or Intel Xeon X5650 @ 2.67GHz (I'm saying Xeon because of this> http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Xeon+X5650+%40+2.67GHz&id=1304)
RAM: 16GB at 1600
PORTS: 6 USB ports with at least a couple at USB 3.0, and a fire-wire port.
SOLID STATE DRIVE: if this would help for using music production software, otherwise not really bothered and this can be sacrificed in favor of CPU, MOBO and RAM.

Any advice would be much appreciated. Realise its a relatively tight budget but I want to squeeze every drop of extra power out of my pennies as this PC is going to be following me round for a good few years.

THANKS in advance!!! Any further details required please let me know!
Simon

That benchmark site is quite a bit out of date as it doesn't have the newer Haswell Xeon E5 series. But there's quite a few limitations to using Haswell as opposed to i5/i7. Xeons can't be overclocked and use slower RAM speeds, and while they can use Z87 motherboards are generally better paired with workstation specific motherboards.
