I have a number of files that I had encrypted on a previous version of Windows 7. I'm now running Windows 8.
I saved my keys and I am able to access the files. My problem is that I cannot turn off encryption on the files. Some of the files were encrypted by mistake (MP3s) and I don't want them encrypted.
Each time I try to turn off encryption (via folder/Properties/advanced/...) I get "Access Denied". My current user owns the files. I can delete them and copy them and play them without any issues. I simply cannot turn off encryption.
I've tried using Cipher /U but that didn't do anything that I noticed.
Thanks in advance.
Lesson learned. I won't use MS encryption ever again.
Update: Since I couldn't find an answer I wrote a quick program to do a byte for byte copy of the files to a new directory. The files are now unencrypted. But I'd still like to know what I can do in the future rather than hack my way out of this problem as I'm sure others might want to know.
