I have a older pc I was giving my first ever upgrade to and this is my first time upgrading a pc

my specs are midtower case
MOBO is GIGABITE GA-H61M-D2P-B3
Intel I3 3.10 ghz
16GB Ram
Corsair cx500m PSU
2TB HD

I bought the Corsair PSU to replace cheap dead one that's no longer made
and replaced old fans with new ones and both fans have the small 3 pin with large 4 pin moldex connectors but new fans came with only 2 pins so I ordered 3 pin to 4 pin adapters but still in the mail..right now I just want to get pc running again can I just connect old 4 pin fans to new pcu thru its new fan cables that came with it and im very unsure if I should connect it to motherboard thru sys-fan on motherboard or just hook up power and that's it..i don't remember them being connected thru old psu then to motherboard in old set up..

I am just trying to get working again and still have a cooler master CPU cooler in box and a SSD Conversion kit still in boxes but I am already over my head it seems=((

PSU is hooked up thru motherboard to 24 pin connector and hooked up to harddrive but uncertain on CPU the fixed cables that came with power unit have a 8 pin connector but my mobo only has 4 but I noticed cable split but unsure what 4 pin split I would use

I tried support to OEMs but some no replys while others said they did not know
Again I feel im over my head but wanted to learn to rebuild my pc now uncertain

Doesn't matter how you connect the fans, either directly to PSU thru molex or directly to your motherboard. The difference is that the motherboard controls the fans speed (if they have 4 pin connectors for PWM) and they will spin at their maximum RPM if you connect them directly to PSU. About the 8 pin connector for the CPU, it will split 4 and 4 and you won't be able to connect the wrong 4 one and just the right one because the connector pins and the connector on the motherboard are shaped so you can plug them correctly. Just split the 8 pin in half and you'll see you can plug only one 4 pin to the motherboard. Good luck!
