hi i am having network speed issues lately.

my modem sits on my table having power backup and Wireless Access Point (WAP) does not have power backup so I loose net connectivity when ever power goes down, being from India we suffer from power cuts unfortunately :\

1. I wanted to connect my modem to PC via switch and then another WiFi router (WAP) to switch

2. I have two lan ports on PC can i connect modem to one of them and then connect another LAN cable to connect from the other LAN port on PC to my WAP ( LAN ). No switch needed here.

SO out of the two options in which will I get higher internal network ( not internet ISP ) transfer speeds ? :) thanks

I dont have switch so i was avoiding to buy it if i dont get any extra transfer speeds over my second option.

Solution
You access speeds will be the same as long as you get a switch that is faster than your wifi. If you get a Gigabit switch then the WAP will be your limiting factor. In your setup I would get a switch. Using 2 NICs in a PC to connect networks is difficult to do correctly. You need some networking knowledge. For example each NIC really needs to be on a separate network with different IP subnets. Then if you want the users on the WAP to get to the internet you will have to make your PC route between its NICs. If I were you I would get a switch.
