The error can be caused by corrupted system files, these can be the recovery files, the files on the system, can also be caused by bad hardware, infected system, bad HD sectors etc.
I would suggest you burn a Hirens Boot CD or USB, boot it up, and run a "chkdsk /r" from a command window, scan for virus/malware, and make sure you have enough free disk space for the installation to complete without issues... that would involve deleting junk files, moving personal files to a removable drive, etc.
