I was going to go for the gtx 760, unitl I noticed the recommended specs for the gpu in Battlefield 4 is more than 2 gb of gddr5 ram. The gtx 760 is the superior gpu overall, but can the radeon r9 270x 4gb run battlefield better because of the superior ram?
The gtx 760 will be better in most games but in bf4 since the 270x has mantle it will perform better. Also don't get the 4gb card you will not get any advantage unless you are running a crazy resolution or a multiple monitor setup(if this is the case don't buy these gpu's, save your money and buy something like a 280x or a 290)
That is just plain wrong. By using Mantle 2gb is not enough for BF4. There is a reason why so many 270 owners are complaining about stuttering and spikes; it's because they bought 2gb versions when AMD specifically recommends 3gb minimum. They enable Mantle expecting a great FPS increase only to discover their vram usage exceeds the card's 2gb. 3gb is barely enough for a 280x and on some maps is not enough.
1080p is a crazy resolution?
OP, get the 4gb version of the 270x. It will run BF4 far better than the 760. However, if you cheap out and go for the 2gb, well, good luck. Unless there is a future driver update that lowers the vram requirement, you won't be happy.
Here's two videos using the 270x 4gb version. Watch the vram creep up and stabilize well above 2gb.
