Hello guys, I'm a proud owner of a 2600k for about 2 years now and I was wondering if it's worth the upgrade to the new 4770k cpu for gaming.

My 2600k is OC @ 5.0 with water cooling and I bet theres no way I will be able to OC the new one @ that speeds cause they run hotter so it seems.

What do you guys think? Should I upgrade it or wait for the next gen?

Thanks

Not worth it. Even knowing that stock 3.5GHz 4770K ~4.5GHz 2600K you have to remember that you might get a crap overkclocker and end up with only 5-10% faster CPU.

Better keep the 2600K system for now and wait for Broadwell.

Thanks for that chart m8, indeed that's what I thought, even tho it's a bit faster, don't think it will compensate the OC I have on my 2600k

Going for only GAMING, consider i5 4670k. Considering the coming future where games are expected to utilize more cores then consider i7 4770k but remember even 4770k ahs only four cores with multi threading enabled giving the impression it has 8 cores. There are actually four cores with four virtual cores.

Remember, in terms of performance, physical cores will yield more benefit than these virtual cores.

Read the comparison of CPUs in the link and you'll be surprised and may get inclined towards, ivybridge :)

Thank for all the replys, you guys are great.
Regarding the i5 vs i7 for gaming, I play some mmo's that I actually see a difference in fps when to many players are on the screen.
I tested with and without hyperthreading with the game Guild Wars 2 and I gain about 10 fps in World Vs Word big zergs with lot of players on screen.

So yeah, when I first bought my i7 2600k ppl told me to buy the i5, tho I'm stubborn and went to i7 and I do not regret it, we see more and more game devs taking advantage of hyperthreading so I will go for the i7. 10 fps may not see much but when you have 200 players on the screen, makes a big difference :D

Good for you :) Cheers

Definitely stick with your current setup; wait for the next-gen of Intel.
