I just recently installed a 120gb Kingston SSD drive. I cloned my HD drive who have only 40gb used space. Now when i go to Computer the SSD Drive shows only 80 gb not 120 or 118 gb, is this normal?

i used EaseUS Todo Backup to clone the drive.

Thanks

A 120 GB SSD or HDD should actually show as a 111 GB drive in Windows because all the drive manufacturers quote capacity based on decimal system which is technically incorrect. True capacity is based on the binary system as used by computers.

So you've lost 31 GB somewhere on the SSD during the cloning process, maybe the clone size was only 80 GB. You should have made the clone size just under 111 GB before going ahead with the cloning process.

Remember, when you clone it's the size of the partition that determines the clone size, not the amount of data that's on it.

120 GB SSD and the HDD is 500 GB. Cloned/copied the contents (Windows 7) of the HDD to the SSD. Now i used the SSD for OS and the HDD for Documents. I followed the instruction on this post on how to migrate windows to SSD http://lifehacker.com/5932009/the-complete-guide-to-solid-state-drives

Thanks. I also found out that the 30 GB missing and not showing was being used as a system reserved. Beside the 100 MB that is showing there is a hidden 30 GB space that is being declared as a system reserved. I found it by browsing in the Disk Management

Now i have to find away how to shrink that 30 GB space that is being used as a system reserved.
