Hello,
I have a 80mm fan laying around and I wanted to put it in my case on the side to blow in my graphics card, but the fan has only two open wires (why, dont ask me, I have no idea where i got it),
and on it says 12V; and I looked around molex connectors and saw it has 12V and 5V connections...
I always have some crazy ideas: will it be "safe" to crank the cables to molex 12V and ground and tape them OR cut them off(molex cables) and solder them in place with fan?

I dont have where to buy anything that could help me here because I live in the middle of nowhere and have to use with I have at home... :)
I need a new fan to at least help me a bit, 'couse my card is heating up...

Thank you.

Hi VirusWar ,
you must wire the molex accordingly for 12v
molexpinoutdiagram.jpg

if your fan is 12v , you will need to solder then tape the molex yellow wire = +12v to one of the fan wires and either black ground wires to the other and this will power your fan , if you have an old molex connector luying around you can use that , be sure the wires are not touching and the remaining wires are taped or removed from the molex and you will be good to go

Thanks for the answer. Just one more thing, will this help, at least a little bit to my gpu temperature? And can I raise my case from the ground (~1,5m up) and open one side of the case? I know that than its getting dustier faster but I really need to do something with my overheating... I have gt8800 and it heats like crazy! When gaming ~85C...

take out the 8800 and check it for dust , try blowing the dust out of it with a can of compressed air or yourself , an 80mm fan won't push much air but it will probably help worst case scenario if you can't get new fans for your case then take of side panel and use a house fan to blow air into the case
