double screen not available in W7 pro

I have Windows 7 Pro and just connected a second screen. Now I discover that in the "change the appearance of your displays" menu the "extend" option is not available. So I get double screen with just 2 identical displays... :(
what should I do? video card? download driver?

Hi i7Baby: there is no dragging across: I have two identical screens and two mice. when I press the windows+p button and click on extend, nothing happens.
in the "Intel Graphics Media Accelarator Driver" I have only one choice: single screen...
