Can I buy a laptop with an AMD processor and replace it with an I7?

Well, I've been looking to buy a gaming laptop, and they're obviously kind of expensive. So now I was thinking, maybe I should buy this laptop :

And then buy a seperate I7-4700MQ ( they're like 280 dollars I think ) and let my friend replace the two for me. However, is such a thing even possible? He has worked at a computer store repairing computers / laptops for about a year so I guess he could do it, but I can't contact him currently and I really want to know.

No it isn't possible, and you wouldn't need to. That gaming laptop would perform just fine. If you want more performance you can always order the parts have have your friend build you a desktop. You can actually make one that is really small, like around 30cm x 20cm x 20cm.

Yeah, a desktop is out of the question for me however. The thing is, it just looks as if the AMD processor really bottlenecks the 8970m. If you look at notebookcheck for example, you can see that the 8970M performs significantly better when paired with an I7, and it's defenitely not being used to it's full potential with an AMD processor. I do think it's still a nice deal though, don't get me wrong.

EVERYTHING would perform better paired with an I7. But that doesn't mean it is bottlenecked. If I replaced my 4670K with a 4770K I would get a few more frames, but in no way is my mid-range 270X being bottlenecked. The notebook will perform wonderfully as-is. I would go with that and not worry about getting a better processor, your GPU will be really really nice.
