I don't know how to start this thread but I'll just tell you guys the situation I am in.

There's a modem in the kitchen and I wanna connect with a cable to get a better connection. BUT I cannot reach the computer on my room with the cable and I can't move the modem to my room to use cable because there's no ''holes'' for the phone. Is there like a way to use a second modem or something so I can put it in my room and then use cable?

Just to be clear ... Your modem is located in your kitchen -- presumably with another computer. In order to connect 2 computers to the modem you will need to first connect the modem to a router.

You may then use a pair of powerline Ethernet adapters to connect to one port of the router while the other computer is connected to a second port of the router.

If that's the plan --- you are good for the most part. (There are potential configuration issues with Ethernet over wiring circuits when the outlets used are on opposite legs of the electrical panel).

Here is a *TP-LINK 500Mbps Powerline Adapter Starter Kit* for $40. NewEgg/Canada might ship one to your front door.

Even with cable, only one 'modem'. The ISP only coughs up one IP address. Unless of course you pay for two.

Ah. That may be an issue.

I know TelstraClear (the only cable operator here) had some really weird stuff with their TV boxes. Cable to the TV box, then cable to a modem and an ethernet back to the decoder for PPV stuff, and another modem for internet.

TCL were considered the most inept company in the telecoms industry here, though. And that's saying something.

Powerline seems like a excellent idea. I actually never knew about it until today. I've made some research and saw that there are 2 different technologies which is Intelogis technology and Intellon, PowerPacket technology. Is the new powerpacket in every new powerline adapters? Also, if I bought this: http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/d-link-d-link-powerline-av500-mini-adapter-dhp-308av-dhp-308av/10231698.aspx?path=124b65ebac39bf4675638d3187d80b84en02 will I need to buy 2 to plug them for it to work? Like I plug one where the modem is and put in the ethernet cable, then I got to my room plug in the adapter and plug in ethernet cable?
