So I've been looking at monitors and naturally I'm drawn to the "best rated" one which I found to be asus pg278q. Then I realized my evga 560ti wont be enough for the monitor. What graphics cards should I look at if I want to play on a 2560x1440 monitor? I'd be using it primarily for gaming but I'd love to leave options open if I ever wanted to start using it for something more intensive.

If you're going to be playing at 1440p, then you are going to need a pretty beefy video card.
Here are some recommendations, but I need your budget to suggest something suitable.

You should be looking into the GTX 770, R9 280X, and anything above them.
That is if you're looking to play modern games, like BF4 and Crysis 3 on High settings with suitable frames. (40+)

If you're playing Minesweeper, then stick with your card.

for 1440p 780/290 would be ideal. If you do video editing a 780 would be nice with its Cuda rendering.

Your budget is $400, which can get more than a 770.
Actually, if you increased your budget to $600, you can get two 770's but in your budget that's not logical right now.

For your 1440p monitor, you should get a stronger card than the 770. Anything stronger than the 770 for just regular 1-monitor 1080p gaming is not needed.

Still under your budget, the R9 290 would be the best choice. It's comparable to the GTX 780, but is almost $100 cheaper. Here's my recommendation.
