new hard drive not fixing laptop

I got error messages saying the hard drive was shot on my dell inspiron 5110, replaced the bare hard drive, pain in a** have to take the whole thing apart. Put it back together, and the power light goes on but the screen stays black. Plz help.

did you remember to reinstall your operating system to the new drive? sorry to state the obvious,but you never know.if you havent yet installed the os go to the boot menu and set it to boot from your install medium ie dvd or usb and hit enter.this will take you to the install menu.there you will want to select custom install.im assuming your using win7?
