Possible dead RAM slot?

Hi,

I think I may have blown one of the RAM slots on my motherboard... stupidly I didn't put the RAM in fully and when the power was put back in in smelt like a fuse being blown and the pc wouldn't turn on.
When put back in correctly it turns on but now only shows 2gb instead of the 4gb.
Is there any way of fixing this without a new motherboard or is it completely ruined?

Have you checked to determine whether its one of your ram sticks that may have gone rather than the slot?

Yea I've tried putting one piece of ram on both slots, in the one I think is blown when I put the power cord in the blue light on the pc just stays on but nothing is on the screen, in the other slot the blue light comes on for 2 seconds then turns off and I can start the pc in the usual way.

Might try the sticks in another rig, but from the sounds of it would thing the slot may have shorted out

Don't know what MB you have but can try the other channel if you have four slots and were running 2x2BG sticks.

Motherboard only had two ram slots so now I'm running off 2gb which is not great.

Guessing from most of these answers the ram slot is ruined beyond repair?

Sounds like more than likely, might see if you can borrow a couple of sticks just to confirm it's mobo and not the DRAM itself
