Hi,

I noticed my temps were high today after I built this system yesterday, running at 40 without load, played a game earlier and it went right up to 64 in no time, so I decided to prime 95 my system, within 1 minute it goes from 40 to 62 then I stop the test, one weird thing is it says my fx8350 is running at 4381.37 MHz yet I haven't OC it as I would not know how, any ideas why it would say that and give these MHz ??

Thanks for any help you can provide

Solution
As i said, the fx series cpus have a serious issue reporting their temps right. Generally an FX cpu's core temp should be reported as ~10C less then the socket temp when under load. (at rest the core temp and socket temp will be pretty close)

as for max temps...

65C on the CPU (if its reporting the temps right)
73C on the socket (at this point most motherboards will start to throttle the cpu)

Splendid
63 degrees is amazing temps for an 8350, If its running at that speed with those temps thats really amazing. Im thinking that its providing inorrect informations somehow. Or an automatic OC setting in the bios or CCC is enabled

4.4ghz is the turbo speed... as for those temps... listen, the fx8350 really shouldn't be used with the stock heatsink. the stock heat sink can't really keep the chip cool. that said FX cpus are not reliable for reporting their temps. Download hwmonitor and check out the cpu socket temp on the motherboard.

ingtar 33, thanks for coming back what socket temp am I looking not to go past, and what chip temp is safe, I have been using the thermal radar on my sabertooth 990fx r2 mobo tends to give exact same results as hw monitor

I had a similar situation occur the same Motherboard. The difference is I am running an FX 9590. Mine was running at
5.166 Ghz Flat out. It is supposed to be 4.7 Ghz (5.0 Ghz Turbo. I have an aftermarket Heatsink. But I also had to run
my ac. That was still a little warm for me. So I reset the factory defaults in the bios. And my temps dropped back to normal.
Also before I reset the bios my cpu failed prime 95. After it was all good. If your cpu continues at the same speed after you reset the bios defaults and passes prime 95 you may just have to live with it. Get a high end cpu cooler.

<insert AIO liquid options if you really want low temps>

CoolerMaster Siedon's and Corsair are really good units.

Otherwise you're trying to cool the surface of the sun when it comes to FX chips.

Also you can cool Fx chips with High end air cooling, I Have cooled my Fx 8350 with the Swiftec Polaris 120 fine and it ran at a solid 4.2+ Ghz while gaming @ about 45 degrees celcius tops. I now have an Fx 9590, I was able to cool it with
my swiftec Polaris But I went instead with a Thermaltake Frio Extreme and it does the job.

+1 the Polaris. I've been using it for the last 2-3 years and it's awesome. Highly underrated.
