How to configure router for the first time

Solution
Depends on the router you bought. Typically you access them by opening your internet browser and typing it's IP address into address bar. The typical ones are 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.10.1. It will then prompt you for the username and password which will typically be a username of admin and a password that is the company's name but you'd have to check the manual. For specific settings you'll have to check the manual. And usually the routers come with a disc that will walk you through setting things up easily.
